Tuberous / Constricted Breast Augmentation

Tuberous or constricted breasts are characterized by enlarged areola with a puffy appearance, wider spacing between the breasts, decreased breast volume with narrow base, and decreased distance between the nipple and breast fold. Between 1 and 5% of breast augmentation patients have a tuberous breast deformity which can range from mild to severe. Tuberous breast deformity can be dramatically improved with breast augmentation.

Correcting a tuberous or constricted breast required precision and a different technique than more routine breast augmentation. Generally, a periareolar approach is best in order to expand the lower pole of the breast. Implants are placed in the subglandular plane to allow more direct expansion of the breast. Finally, release of the constricted breast base is accomplished with radial scoring of the breast tissue which allows the breast to expand over the implant.

Expectations

Length: 1 hour

Risks: Pain, bleeding, infection, asymmetry, implant failure, scarring around the implant (capsular contracture)
