The Buccal Fat Pad is located in the mid cheek and gives volume to the cheeks. In many patients, the buccal fat pad is overly developed giving the patient an unwanted round or cherub appearance. Removing the buccal fat can give the patient a slimmer and more defined or chiseled appearance where cheek volume is reduced to accentuate the cheekbones and jawline. The buccal fat pad removal gives a subtle but powerful change in appearance where the patient looks thinner with more defined facial features.
Removing the buccal fat pad is a simple procedure where an incision in made inside the cheek so that the fat is removed without telltale scars. Dissolvable sutures are placed in the mouth and the patient remains on a soft diet for about a week. Swelling, bruising, and pain are generally minimal and recovery is very brief.
