Introducing eCO2 3D at Jola Aesthetics: The Next Generation of CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Advanced fractional CO2 laser resurfacing in Dallas for wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, texture, and comprehensive skin rejuvenation
eCO2 3D by Cynosure Lutronic is a next-generation resurfacing platform that gives patients more options than a single fixed protocol. Cynosure Lutronic describes the platform around three treatment depths, two delivery modes, and one system. Treatment is customised around your skin, your concerns, the result you want, and how much downtime you are willing to accommodate.

What Is eCO2 3D?
eCO2 3D is an FDA-cleared fractional CO2 laser system from Cynosure Lutronic. The FDA granted 510(k) clearance for the eCO2 3D in July 2025.
Its cleared indications include skin resurfacing and treatment applications involving wrinkles and fine lines, scars, acne scars, surgical scars, textural irregularities, dyschromia, pigmented lesions, lentigines, and other dermatologic concerns.
The technology works by delivering fractional CO2 laser energy into microscopic treatment zones while leaving surrounding areas of tissue untreated.
1
Fractional delivery
Laser energy is delivered into microscopic treatment zones while surrounding tissue is left untreated.
2
Healing response
Immediately following treatment, these fractional columns initiate a healing response, and the surrounding untreated tissue assists recovery.
3
Collagen remodeling
New tissue and dermal collagen develop over time, and Cynosure Lutronic notes that collagen remodeling following treatment can continue for months.
This combination of surface renewal + deeper collagen remodeling is what makes fractional CO2 resurfacing so powerful.

Why CO2 Laser Resurfacing Remains a Gold Standard
Skin aging occurs at multiple levels.
Years of sun exposure, environmental damage, collagen loss, repeated facial movement, acne, scarring, and normal aging can lead to:

How fractional CO2 laser resurfacing stimulates skin renewal and collagen
Fine lines and deeper wrinkles
Sun damage and brown spots
Uneven pigmentation
Rough or crepey texture
Acne scars
Surgical scars
Enlarged-looking pores
Loss of firmness
Dullness
Overall deterioration in skin quality
Excellent medical-grade skincare can significantly improve and maintain skin health. Lower-downtime lasers can also be ideal for pigment, brightness, and routine maintenance.
But there comes a point when a patient wants more significant resurfacing.
That is where CO2 becomes particularly valuable.
Fractional CO2 treatment can address both visible surface damage and deeper structural remodeling rather than focusing exclusively on one component of skin aging.
What Makes eCO2 3D Different?
The defining advantage of eCO2 3D is customization.
- Not every patient needs deep resurfacing.
- Not every wrinkle needs the same treatment depth.
- Not every acne scar should receive the same energy.
- And not every patient can accommodate a lengthy recovery.
The eCO2 3D platform gives the provider greater flexibility to adjust treatment according to the clinical problem.
Its core concept is:
3 Depths. 2 Modes. 1 Platform.
The platform combines a 40-watt system, three interchangeable microbeam tips measuring 120 μm, 300 μm, and 500 μm, Static and Dynamic treatment modes, and Cynosure Lutronic's Controlled Chaos™ scanning technology.

Static and Dynamic modes
Lets the provider match the treatment mode to the clinical problem.

More Power When Deeper Resurfacing Is Needed
eCO2 3D uses a 40W system, which Cynosure Lutronic describes as delivering 33% more power than its prior platform. The manufacturer says this allows sharper, deeper ablation zones and more efficient treatment when deeper resurfacing is appropriate.
But more power does not mean every patient receives an aggressive treatment.
That distinction is important.
The value of an advanced laser is not simply how aggressively it can treat the skin. It is how precisely the treatment can be adapted to the individual patient.
For one patient, that may mean a light refresh.
For another, it may mean addressing significant photodamage.
For another, the goal may be deeper wrinkle or acne-scar remodeling.
Treatment intensity should follow the diagnosis—not the device's maximum capability.
Three Microbeam Sizes for Greater Precision
The eCO2 3D incorporates interchangeable 120, 300, and 500 micron tips, allowing providers to personalize treatment according to desired depth, density, and clinical target.
This matters because skin concerns are not one-dimensional.

120 μm
Lighter, more superficial treatment
A shallower depth setting for lighter, more superficial treatment.

300 μm
Mid-depth treatment
A mid-depth setting for treatment between the lightest and deepest options.

500 μm
Deeper treatment
The deepest of the three settings, for deeper treatment.

Deep wrinkles around the mouth may require a different approach from diffuse sun damage across the cheeks.
Acne scars may require targeted remodeling, while a patient seeking brighter, smoother skin may benefit from a considerably lighter treatment.
Rather than forcing each of these patients into the same CO2 protocol, eCO2 3D allows treatment to be adjusted to the problem.
Treatment adjusted to the problem, not the protocol.
Static Mode vs. Dynamic Mode
Another major feature of eCO2 3D is its two treatment-delivery modes.
Static Mode: Targeted Resurfacing
Static mode is designed for deeper, more targeted fractional treatment. Cynosure Lutronic positions it for concerns such as wrinkle reduction and tightening where concentrated resurfacing is desired.
Depending on the patient, it may be considered when addressing:
- Deeper wrinkles
- Etched lines
- Acne scars
- Significant textural irregularities
- Advanced photodamage
- Areas requiring more intensive collagen remodeling
Dynamic Mode: Efficient Full-Face Rejuvenation
Dynamic mode allows the handpiece to move across broader treatment areas, providing a faster and gentler approach designed to improve overall tone and texture.
According to Cynosure Lutronic, Dynamic mode can substantially reduce full-face treatment time compared with traditional treatment delivery.
This can make it especially useful for patients seeking broader complexion refinement rather than intensive correction of one isolated concern.
Precision Peel: A Lower-Downtime Approach to CO2
One of the most exciting aspects of the eCO2 3D platform at Jola is the Precision Peel.
Not everyone seeking CO2 resurfacing wants an aggressive peel.
Many of our patients simply want their skin to look:
Brighter.
Smoother.
Fresher.
Clearer.
More refined.
They may have early fine lines, mild sun damage, textural changes, or simply feel that their skin has lost some of its radiance.
For these patients, a lighter Precision Peel provides another option within the CO2 resurfacing spectrum.
Cynosure Lutronic specifically designed eCO2 3D to span from lower-downtime Precision Peel treatments to deeper fractional resurfacing.
That flexibility allows us to ask a much better question than:
Do you want a CO2 laser?
Instead, we can ask:
What does your skin actually need?
What Is Controlled Chaos™ Technology?
Fractional lasers create microscopic treatment zones across the skin. But the sequence in which those treatment zones are delivered matters.
Delivering energy too closely together can contribute to unnecessary heat accumulation.
eCO2 3D uses Cynosure Lutronic's patented Controlled Chaos™ Technology, a randomized scanning pattern designed to distribute energy more consistently and reduce clustering of heat. The manufacturer reports that this approach is intended to reduce hot spots while improving treatment comfort and consistency.

Conventional sequential fractional treatment

Randomized Controlled Chaos™ delivery
Conventional sequential delivery vs. randomized Controlled Chaos™ delivery
Reduced hot spots
Randomized spacing avoids energy stacking in one zone.
Improved treatment comfort
Spreading delivery over the treatment area rather than concentrating it.
Improved consistency
A scanning pattern that distributes energy more evenly across the skin.
For patients, this represents another way the platform combines aggressive resurfacing capability with more sophisticated control over energy delivery.
What Can eCO2 3D Treat?
The eCO2 3D platform has FDA-cleared indications encompassing a broad range of resurfacing concerns, including wrinkles and fine lines, scars, acne scars, surgical scars, textural irregularities, dyschromia, pigmented lesions, lentigines, and actinic/solar elastosis.
For aesthetic patients, some of the most common treatment goals include:
Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Fractional CO2 resurfacing can soften fine lines while stimulating collagen remodeling beneath the skin.
It can be particularly useful for etched-in lines and areas where surface aging has become more pronounced.
Sun Damage and Pigmentation
Years of Texas sun exposure can leave the complexion uneven, mottled, rough, and prematurely aged.
Resurfacing can improve visible photodamage while helping reveal clearer, more even-looking skin.
Acne Scars
Acne scars are structural changes in the skin and often require more than skincare.
Fractional CO2 has an established role in treating selected acne scars by creating controlled injury and encouraging collagen remodeling.
Texture
For patients who describe their skin as rough, crepey, or uneven, resurfacing can improve the surface while stimulating deeper renewal.
Surgical and Traumatic Scars
Selected scars may benefit from fractional laser resurfacing to improve their texture and integration with the surrounding skin.
Overall Skin Quality
You do not necessarily need severe skin damage to benefit from resurfacing.
With appropriately selected settings, eCO2 3D can also be used as part of a broader strategy for smoother, brighter, more refined skin.

How Much Downtime Does eCO2 3D Have?
There is no single answer because eCO2 3D is not a single treatment protocol.
Recovery depends on treatment depth, density, energy, treatment area, individual healing characteristics, and the clinical goal.
A lighter Precision Peel can have a much different recovery profile from aggressive fractional CO2 resurfacing.
Following treatment, patients may experience varying degrees of:
Redness — peaks at 24-48 hours
Swelling — most noticeable in the first 2-3 days
Warmth — settles within the first day
Dryness — builds over the first 3-5 days
Peeling or flaking — typically days 3-7
Temporary sensitivity — eases within the first week
More aggressive resurfacing involves more significant recovery.
This is why consultation and treatment planning matter.
At Jola, we want to balance three things:
The result you want.
The treatment your skin can safely tolerate.
The amount of downtime you are comfortable accepting.
The right plan is the one that fits your life.
Bring your calendar, your concerns and your questions to a consultation — we will map the treatment to the recovery you can accept.
eCO2 3D vs. Ultra: Which Laser Is Better?
This is likely to become one of the most common questions at Jola.
The answer is that neither laser is universally better.
They do different things.
Ultra
1927 nm thulium wavelength
Our Ultra by Cynosure Lutronic uses a 1927 nm thulium wavelength and is an excellent option when the priority is lower-downtime improvement in pigmentation, sun damage, tone, texture, and overall radiance.
It is particularly attractive for patients who want ongoing skin maintenance without aggressive resurfacing.
It may be preferred when the treatment goal involves:
- Lower-downtime improvement
- Pigmentation and sun damage
- Tone and texture
- Overall radiance
- Ongoing skin maintenance without aggressive resurfacing
eCO2 3D
Fractional CO2 platform
eCO2 3D is a fractional CO2 platform and gives us the ability to move further along the resurfacing spectrum.
It may be preferred when the treatment goal involves:
- Deeper wrinkles
- Acne scars
- More significant textural irregularities
- Advanced photodamage
- More intensive resurfacing
- Greater collagen remodeling
And between those two ends of the spectrum is the Precision Peel, giving us another treatment level for patients who want CO2 resurfacing without necessarily pursuing the most aggressive option.

The advantage of offering both technologies is simple:
We can choose the laser based on your skin rather than trying to make your skin fit the laser.
eCO2 3D Can Be Part of a Complete Facial Rejuvenation Plan
Skin aging rarely occurs in isolation.
A patient may simultaneously have sun damage, wrinkles, facial volume loss, jowling, neck laxity, and dynamic expression lines.
No single laser can correct all of those problems.
Another important distinction is between resurfacing and tightening.
eCO2 3D primarily addresses skin resurfacing and collagen remodeling.
XERF radiofrequency addresses tissue through a different energy mechanism and can be incorporated when deeper tightening is part of the treatment goal.
For selected patients, this creates a comprehensive strategy:
XERF → deeper tightening and collagen support
eCO2 3D → surface renewal, texture, wrinkles, scars and photodamage
Medical-grade skincare → daily protection and maintenance
These treatments should not automatically be performed together or on the same day. Timing and sequencing should be determined according to the patient's skin and treatment plan.
But conceptually, they allow us to address different components of aging rather than expecting one technology to do everything.
Depending on the patient's anatomy and goals, a comprehensive plan might incorporate:
eCO2 3D
for resurfacing and texture.
Ultra
for lower-downtime pigment and maintenance treatments.
XERF
for nonsurgical radiofrequency tightening.
Botox
for dynamic expression lines.
Dermal filler or facial fat transfer
for selected areas of lost volume.
Medical-grade skincare
for ongoing pigment management, collagen support, hydration, and sun protection.
Facelift, neck lift, or eyelid surgery
when structural aging has progressed beyond what a laser can realistically correct.
This distinction is especially important.
A laser can make skin look considerably better.
It cannot reposition a descended cheek, eliminate significant jowling, or surgically tighten a loose neck.
Part of sophisticated aesthetic treatment is knowing which tool solves which problem.
