Dr. Burns is an internationally acclaimed board-certified plastic surgeon and past President of one of the largest group practices in the country, the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute (DPSI), serving from 2017 to 2025. He is also the medical director of JOLA Aesthetics.

How Are Super Doctors Selected?
The Super Doctors selection process is a comprehensive, multi-step method designed to identify top healthcare providers who have earned significant peer recognition and professional achievement. This selective listing includes doctors from over 40 medical specialties. The process begins with an annual survey where doctors nominate exceptional peers, followed by research to identify additional candidates with notable credentials or achievements. Candidates are evaluated on ten indicators, including experience, leadership roles, academic positions, and honors. Nominees are then reviewed by a "blue ribbon panel" of top doctors in each specialty, and the highest-scoring candidates are included on the Super Doctors list, which represents approximately 5% of doctors in a given state or region. Before publication, candidates' professional information is verified, and they are checked for any disciplinary or criminal issues.
About Dr. John Burns
Dr. Burns is a Clinical Instructor of Plastic Surgery at UTSWMC and actively engages in academic plastic surgery through the Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute. Nationally recognized for his expertise in Laser Surgery, Cosmetic Breast Surgery, and facial rejuvenation, Dr. Burns focuses on enhancing collaboration between industry and private practice as past President of DPSI to improve the safety and efficacy of devices, drugs, and procedures.
Dr. Burns graduated summa cum laude from the research honors program at Vanderbilt University and the University of Texas Medical Branch. He continued his fellowship training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center before joining DPSI in 2004. He specializes in cosmetic plastic surgery, with expertise in breast augmentation, fat transfer to the face, breast, and body, facelifts, body contouring, and rhinoplasty.
