Scarring around the implant is referred to as capsular contracture.  Prevention of capsular contracture is always the goal and this is accomplished with meticulous surgical technique and detailed and dedicated postoperative protocols and follow-up.  However, if capsular contracture does occur it can be repaired by removing the capsule and replacing the implant.
