Mini Breast Augmentation

It's no question that we live in a society where women know what they want. Out of the thousands of breast augmentations I have performed, the reasons for wanting breast implants do not change. Women frequently tell me that having smaller breast tissue limits their clothing options, and it's difficult to find more attractive bras and swimsuits. Some are bothered by clothing that doesn't gap because of their naturally existing breast volume. 

Many women want better breast shape and volume, but do not want to appear enhanced or fake. It's the primary reason why smaller but shapelier breasts are currently trending.  I am seeing a large population of my augmentation cases move from a several-cup size increase to women wanting a touch more volume while highlighting breast contour and silhouette.

 More and more women are avoiding larger augmentation that can get in the way of activities like running and working out.

These women generally fall within two categories: women with underdeveloped, natural breast tissue who desire more understated augmentation, and women who want to seek breast revision surgery to either remove their breast implants in exchange for a smaller pair of implants and/or supplement their breasts with fat.

Some plastic surgeons and even breast implant manufacturers understand that larger implants aren't always better for some women. Every patient has a unique goal for their outcome with breast enhancement, and today I'm reviewing the two types of approaches I take to creating a mini breast aug in my practice.

For many, the thought of breast augmentation conjures up a significant change in size. I still treat a many  patients who want to go from an A cup to a full C or even D cup. Again, breast augmentation surgery goals vary from patient to patient. Those with smaller, more petite body frames should consider the long-term impact of significantly larger breasts on their body type.

Breast implants come in various profiles which partly determine the volume. These profiles are extra full, full, moderate, low plus, and low. For a mini breast augmentation, patients generally choose either the low or low-plus. These implants will hold less volume for a given breast width and give about a cup size increase.

In a mini breast augmentation, the implants are placed under the muscle which provides more coverage, less rippling, a smoother upper pole transition, and an overall more natural appearance. For athletic women, there is also subfascial placement which avoids implant movement with chest muscle contraction: animation deformity.
