Procedures for Men

Plastic surgery for men has increased dramatically in the past decade as men are demonstrating an increasing desire to improve their appearance.  Statistics from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery  (ASAPS) show that in 2010 men had over 750,000 procedures representing 8% of the total cosmetic procedures.  In 2010 the number of cosmetic procedures increased over 88% from 1997.

Popular procedures for men include but are not limited to Botox and fillers, facial rejuvenation procedures (facelift/neck-lift, eyelid rejuvenation, laser skin resurfacing), nose shaping (rhinoplasty), and liposuction.

Botox is very effective in treating forehead lines and crow’s feet in the upper third of the face.  This simple office procedure is relatively painless with no recovery time. It is popular with men because it has a natural appearance. Botox generally lasts 3 – 4 months.

Eyelid Rejuvenation

Many men struggle with excess skin in the upper eyelids which ages the eyes and in severe cases can obstruct the vision.  The lower eyelids can have excess skin and fat deposits which result in lower eyelid “bags.”  Removing this extra skin and fat can refresh the eyes and rejuvenate a heavy and tired appearance.

Male facelifts require careful attention to the nuances of the male face such as the beard, sideburn, and hairline.  A natural result is obtained by paying careful attention to these important details so that any telltale signs of a facelift can be avoided.

Facial Fillers

Juvederm Ultra Plus is a long acting hyaluronic acid filler used to treat deep lines around the mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines) which result from gravitational aging in the face.  The filler is administered in a simple office procedure with no recovery time.  Like Botox, Juvederm has a natural appearance.  Juvederm Ultra Plus can last up to one year.

Laser Resurfacing

Fractionated ablative laser resurfacing rejuvenates the skin by improving skin tone, texture, color, and pore size.  The treatment removes about 20% of the total surface area of the skin which improves wrinkles and generally tightens the skin.

Male liposuction generally targets the waist area (abdomen and flanks/love handles) and sometimes the chest.  Liposuction targets fat under the skin but cannot treat intraabdominal fat located below the abdominal muscles.  Recovery is generally brief and there are no telltale scars making it a very popular procedure for men.

Nose Reshaping

As a focal point of the face, a misproportioned or misshapen nose can bring unwanted attention.  Careful shaping of the nose can restore balance and symmetry to the face.  If the nasal airway is compromised, this can also be addressed to improve breathing.
